We work with Hendricks County’s citizens and organizations to conserve our natural resources.
Technical Assistance
Hendricks County SWCD provides free technical assistance to residents of the county. This includes general information and resources as well as site visits. We can assist with conservation planning on small and large scale farms/gardens, urban gardens, soil health, native and invasive plants, erosion, drainage concerns, and more.
Learning at Porter Farm
Porter Farm is Hendricks County’s Teaching Farm. Established in 2019 as a partnership between Hendricks County Soil and Water Conservation District and the Indiana Veteran Coalition, Porter Farm offers internships for developing veteran farmers. It also serves as a teaching space for community workshops and demonstrates sustainable land practices.
Hendricks County SWCD brings in experts to share their knowledge with county residents and promote sustainable land use. Our workshops are suited for anyone who cares for land, whether you have a farm or a small backyard. Previous workshops have included composting, native species gardening, canning, and rain barrels.
Construction Stormwater General Permit
Butler Fairman and Seufert are contracted through Hendricks County SWCD to review construction plans, and help implement the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), and conduct general construction stormwater permit work. We work together to provide technical assistance to improve construction sites’ impact on soil and water quality.

Whole-Farm Conservation Planning
The SWCD works closely with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Indiana State Department of Agriculture (ISDA), and other agencies in the Indiana Conservation Partnership to help you develop conservation plans for multiple aspects of your farm. We provide technical assistance, site visits, and additional resources.
Working Together to Find Solutions
We work with local, state, and federal organizations to help citizens get the expertise they need.
